The rescueMe PLB1 can be operated with a single hand in even the most challenging situations. A simple spring loaded flap covers the activation button preventing inadvertent use.
rescueME PLB1 works with the only officially recognised worldwide dedicated search and rescue satellite network (operated by Cospas Sarsat). As this is funded by governments there are NO CHARGES to use this service.
When activated the rescueME PLB1 transmits your position and your ID to a Rescue Coordination Center via satellite link. Rescue services are promptly notified of your emergency and regularly advised of your current location.

Very small
I looked around for a small epirb to slot into the pocket on my PFD. This seems the best/smallest out there. It comes with a small float bag to make it buoyant, but I just tie it into the PFD internal hook. Can't say how well it works as I've not been in an emergency.

So far So good
As my purpose was for having a PLB for emergencies in remote landbased locations, this fits the bill nicely. Small, compact and easy to use, long life, and able to be stowed easily without worry. As far as how good it works, I hope/plan to never find out. Received PLB following day from ordering, very quick.

easy plb purchase
I bought this plb and live in NZ, it arrived quickly and registered it with AMSA no problems at all. And a lot cheaper than buying exactly the same plb in NZ. Very happy

looks good, good price excellent customer service
I purchased this from skippersmate in Oz for use in New Zealand. Same item is available in NZ only for a rediculous higher price.... I did quite some research and I'm convinced that the item will work for me in NZ very well. I will just have to register it with AMSA in AU. If it was only 50bucks more expensive in NZ I wouldn't mind buying it from a NZ dealer, but it is much more than 50... In addition to what Peter wrote on his website on the topic I'd also like to refer to the following resource for Kiwi buyers: http://www.kask.org.nz/plb-or-epirb/ On that website you can see what maritime NZ answered when really confronted with the topic. The PLB has a good size I believe. Not too large, not too small, lightweight. Shipment was fast and correspondence with skippersmate was super fast and easy. If I ever use it I will provide an update, but fingers crossed.

The Best
This PLB has got to be the best on the market ATM. Lightweight and simple. Its a full time companion to my Kayaking,Hiking,Hang-gliding, and Geocaching. Knowing that a rescue is literally minutes away in the event of disaster gives great piece of mind. The replacement battery and size sold me this device. I would hope that one day soon its all in every-ones mobile device. The only negative I can think of is the fact it doesnt float and should of come with some sort of buckle attachment for PFDs that dont support a quick easy connection. SkippersMate Comment: Providing unit is attached to the neoprene pouch supplied, it will float. The flotation pouch is a Au/NZ standards requirement for the units to be sold in AU & NZ.
